Nelly stops by Wuthering Heights and she encounters Hareton who curses and throws stones at her. Hareton tells her that Heatcliff taught him to curse and that heathcliff also refused to allow hareton to be educated. Heathcliff the appears and nelly fless.The followwing day both nelly and catherine watch Heatcliff and Isabella embracing in Grange's garden. Catherine confronts Heathcliff in the kitchen about his feelings for isabella , and in there which Heathcliff admits his only wants to marry Isabella to spite Catherine just as she did him by marrying Edgar .Edgar hides his face from heathcliff during a fight and calls for back up , heathcliff leaves. Edgar asks Catherine to choose between him and Heathcliff and she ignores him and goes to her room where she stays 3 days without eating. Edgar also tells isabella to stay away from Heathcliff or be disowned.

This quote highlights Catherine selfish state of mind , and leads to the reader to quesition in Nelly's narration is accurate as before she revealed her genuine dislike of Catherine. She admits "I own I did not like her after her infancy was past" and claims she is "as bad as marred child." So is this the real catherine and if so is she in love because love is about being not selfish , does she have a infactuation , rather being in love.
