WUTHERING HEIGHTS ( CHAPTER TWENTY THREE)

Nelly and Cathy arrive at the Heights to find Linton, a shivering and pathetic, making demands that Joseph flatly ignores.Linton chastises Cathy for ignoring him and complains about his treatment by Heathcliff.Cathy and Linton begin to fight about their parents' relationships. When he tells Cathy that her mother (Catherine) hated her father (Edgar) and was really in love with his father (Heathcliff), Cathy pushes his chair, causing a dramatic scene. Linton can't stop coughing, choking, and whining.

Anaylsis:
I couldn’t find a quote to suit this but Once again the “civilized” characters are felled by illness arising from harsh weather while the more natural characters remain perfectly healthy. Meanwhile, Cathy’s attraction to Linton mirrors Catherine’s attraction to Edgar. Also Linton uses guilt rather than love to try capture or tame the stronger cathy , Bronte does this to emphasis Linton’s weakness and efficiency to be a man .Also it is interesting how Bronte creates a great sense of deja vu as before marriage catherine hit Edgar. Bronte could have done this to emhaisise the never ending chain of events.
